Road trips to San Francisco
and Los Angeles

San Francisco

After leaving the camp I drove into San Francisco.  I stayed for a couple of days in a little hostel and just did some sight seeing.

Driving over the Golden Gate bridge on a smoggy day.  It cost US$3 just to go.
From the other side of the bridge.
At the Fisherman's Warf, a popular tourist ghetto, otters would climb up on the docks to sleep.  Some of the platforms would get crowded, and the males would fight as these two are.
When I went to China Town I began to feel homesick.  It think it was that that made me realize I should go to Taiwan.  You can see a Taiwan flag at the top of the picture.
This is a bank built like a temple.  Many of the buildings had a very Chinese look.  It was enough 'overdone' to make it look contrived, like another tourist attraction.
Some of the building off the main streets didn't look so exotic, and had more of a 'real China' feel to them.  Especially when I wondered into some of the small street markets.

Los Angeles

After San Francisco, I drove on to Los Angeles.  I stayed at a hostel in the middle of Hollywood.  What a pit.
Druggies or just wasters on the Walk of Fame.
At Venice Beach.  Along the beach there were many parks with skateboard ramps.  It would seem that skateboarding is popular these days.  Funny how things change when you're gone, it was just a small fad when I left.
