Athens and Patras

After leaving Mt. Athos I stayed for another day in Thessaloniki and after several calls found a hostel in Athens.  I thought it would be easy but it was quite difficult to find an empty place during the tourist season.  At the first place I went to I had to wait all morning for a bed, then I went to the YMCA and got a much nicer room cheaper and closer to town.  I stayed in town about 5 days, then I went to Patras, the home town of my priest and St. Andrew.  For two days I took a side trip to Kefalonia and camped on the ground.
It was pretty expensive and I was on a tight budget because I couldn't get any cash from my bank in Taiwan, so I had to live cheap.  I took lots of pictures but you can find better pictures of Athens on the internet so I'm only posting my best or significant ones.

Me, in front of some old broken stuff.  This is what is left of the temple of Olympian Zeus.
The ancient agora where Socrates walked and St. Paul preached.  On the hill above is the Parthenon.  The long white building is the Stoa of Attalos, the only fully reconstructed Classical Era building.  Here is a nice website with an interactive tour of the agora .
Any guesses what this is?  It's a public toilet.  You sat on the hole and there was a stream of water running underneath.  There was also a brush for afterwards.
Two turtles I found fighting near the Temple of Hephaistos.

Nearby the Acropolis was the a church which I think was dedicated to St. George.  This is the bishops throne inside.
Because I didn't have a lot of money I had to eat cheaply.  Luckily Greece has a cheap type of food called sauvlaki (roasted meat on a stick) that is similar to the roasted mutton kebabs I used to love in China.  This is one of the few places that had really good, cheap sauvlaki in the tourist area.
The changing of the guards in front of the tomb of the unknown soldier.  They probably borrowed this from England when the British army occupied Greece.  The uniforms worn are those worn during the Greece rebellion against the Turks.
The Greek Parliament and tomb of the unknown soldier.  It's always crowded with tourist.  Can anyone tell that I took several pictures and merged them together to cut all the people out?
Sunset over the ocean in Patras.
The Church of St. Andrew the Apostle.  Inside I venerated the relics of the saint.  In this photograph I had to erase the people because a big tour group has stopped in as I was leaving.
In Kefalonia there was an underground lake.  The top part collapsed and was bright enough to take this picture.
