DaXi

I haven't been for over a year, but when I first came to Taiwan the only place I traveled to often was a small fishing town called DaXi (Dasi, Ta-shi, ??).  I went there for surfing on the weekend when I was in the mood.  I'm really not a good surfer yet, I have trouble sitting on the board while waiting for a wave.  When one comes I have trouble getting turned around in time.  But, it is a great feeling when I manage to get stood up when a wave catches the board.  Here are some pictures.

Long view of the beach.  This is from an internet web cam at Spider Surf Shop .  This is actually a different beach from the one I go to, but same area.
Close up of the beach.  This was a pretty slow day, not a lot of strong waves.  That's why the surfers seem so close.
They call this Turtle Island because it's kind of shaped like a turtle.
A surfer passes by a small shrine facing the ocean.  Shrines like this are common in fishing villages.  It's likely to ask blessings for the fishing ships.
