The Terra Cotta Warriors, what everyone who goes to Xi'an must see.  The impressive statues were barried long ago and dug up about 20 or so years back.  They just sort of stand there.  The most interesting part for me was seeing where they were still digging some of them up.
In the center of Xi'an City rests this large drum tower.  You can see on the first level on the left corner the actual drum.  It was used for drumming or somethings, now it just blocks traffic.  Admisson was Y40 so I just climbed up on a wall that was at a good angle and took this picture.
Going to the Terra Cotta place I was misdirected onto the wrong bus.  I was told that it was going where I wanted to go but, not trusting them (I'd had a similar incident getting to the Great Wall) I jumped out at the first thing that looked familiar.  It was a nice little garden area.  I didn't realize it a the time but this was where the famous "Xi'an Incident" took place.  The Nationalist Chiang Kie Cheks had been pursuing a "wrong" policy of attacking the Communist instead of the Japanese (according to the sign).  His "right thinking" General Zhang mutinied and Chiang crawled over a wall to escape capture.  He was caught and the generals straitened him out.  Zhang was taken to Taiwan as a prisoner and not released until the early 90s.  This is the office that either Chiang or Zhang used.
Xi'an is one of the largest cities in China's western regions.  In the outer provice there are beautiful, untouched scenes.  It made the 16 hour train ride easier to bear.  This is a water fall.
And here is a valley.  The whole area once we got to ShanXi Province was just hills and valleys.
Of course, you can't have beauty without someone sticking some tacky crap like this into it.  This is a sort of disco-karaoke resturant near the Terra Cotta Warriors.  Scenes like this are, unfortunately, increasingly more common around tourist sights.  Stuff like this ruins the Great Wall for many people.  I think the government beleives this is the only way people can have fun.  This pyramid looking one must be a chain because there's one in Anshan.  Tacky.
